Energyz Black partners with UKERC Consortium to Host Energy Research Hackathon 2026

A strategic partnership with the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC)

12th August 2026 | Energyz Black

Energyz Black has officially announced a strategic partnership with the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) to deliver the Energy Research Hackathon 2026. The single day event will take place in September 2026 at the University of Birmingham.

The hackathon will be delivered in collaboration with UKERC’s network of primary academic and research partners including Supergen Energy Networks, SuperAIRE and EDRC

Designed to bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research, open data, and actionable energy policy, the hackathon brings together postgraduate, early-career and postdoctoral researchers across data science, engineering, social science, economics and public policy, enabling interdisciplinary research capability and collaboration.

By grounding each hackathon track in open government data, real demographic, and research with clear actionable policy focus, we ensure that participants are not just completing technical exercises, but they are also creating explainable, transparent frameworks that directly address fuel poverty, grid flexibility, and building decarbonisation.

Edwin Ehiorobo, Co-Founder of Energyz Black, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration:

“At Energyz Black, our core mission is to empower professionals to start, grow, and thrive in energy and sustainability. Partnering with UKERC and its academic consortium to deliver the 2026 Engineering & Energy Hackathon represents a milestone in bridging the gap between cutting-edge research, open data, and practical equity driven solutions. We are excited to collaborate with UKERC, Supergen, SuperAIRE, and EDRC to cultivate the diverse talent driving a just and resilient energy transition.”

To ensure outcomes extend beyond the event, participating teams will produce fully reproducible models and transparent pitches evaluated on data rigor, interdisciplinary collaboration, and policy relevance. Key findings will be published in a post event impact report designed to directly inform UK energy policy and research strategy.
